Down I don't believe this problem is related to an OS. I have owned other acer laptops and this problem always accurred when I did not run the acer ePower application. I only realised this after I had bought another acer laptop, the aspire 5315 . Acer must have altered (intentionally or not) their motherboards so the fan is regulated by their ePower software rather than by the hardware (or bios). The fan problem occurs with Linux, Windows XP and Windows Vista, the symptoms are the same, the fan will not come on after sleep/hybernation mode. Because this also happens with Windows Vista, I am trying to get acer service to give me a solution because I believe that I was sold a computer to run with Windows Vista, which it clearly doesn't unless I run additional software, i.e. acer ePower. The problem with ePower is that it uses a large chunk of system resorces which slows down the running speed of my computer. I don't need their software and prefer to work without it but can't because of this problem with the fan. I suggest that everybody here complain to acer about that, but please only refer to Windows Vista in your argument, so acer can not refuse and say they do not support your OS (as they already did with Windows XP enquiries). In future I will stay clear of acer unless they supply a solution for this fan problem without having to run their bloatware. " cu
